Rising 5's
A morning session reserved for the children in their final year before school
- Morning Sessions 9.00 am - 11.30 am
- On Fridays, we operate a Lunch Club, the session will therefore be 9.00 am - 12.45 am
- There is a small fee payable for attendance at Lunch Club
Children can attend up to five mornings a week, with a minimum of three mornings. Morning sessions
are registered as the following:
- Christ the King - 22 children, 4 staff and an occasional parent helper
- Crossways - 20 children, 4 staff and an occasional parent helper
The morning session is a great preparation for school. The children arrive in the morning and then sit for registration.
The calendar date is changed, the weather is recorded and the children are asked what they would like to play with. The staff
take their lead from the children and using their knowledge of child development are able to extend their learning.
The Pre-school library is run
from the lobby and parents renew and change their children's books and maths game.
The children are able to choose their own activities. There is occasionally a prepared craft and usually a free
art table. Throughout the session the children tidy up after themselves, they are able to help themselves to fresh fruit or veg and water.
We always have a carpet time, story, songs and rhyme time and the children can choose whether to play indoors or out.
Large group activities are planned throughout the week such as PE sessions and music time. If the
weather is bad we always plan a large group exercise with all tables and chairs pulled back to
accommodate the children. We believe that children need physical activity every day.
During the spring and summer we plan to take the children out on several trips such as the Library,
Police station and Tesco etc.
